Nervous? No way!

We are always harping on about the nervous system. And for first timers in the practice it’s probably a bit confusing, because the nerve system isn’t something that many people think about on a daily basis. In my experience people tend to think about the discomfort they can feel, the stress they are

under, the next meal they are going to eat, their loss of flexibility and strength as they are getting older, their to-do list, their kids, the weather, their dream holiday, what they would do if they won the lotto…..people think about a million things, but they don’t think about their nerve system. But here’s the thing: none of the things you think about happen without your nerve system.

The pain you feel is thanks to the 3% of your nerve system that carries pain signals to your brain. (I know right…only 3% of your nerve system is responsible for all the physical pain you’ve felt in your entire life!) The stress you are under is distributed throughout your body via your nerve system. Your feelings of hunger are communicated via your nerve system. Your loss of flexibility is thanks to your

nerves and decreased muscle contractibility. Your ability to think, imagine, focus and create is thanks to your brain, and yup, that’s part of your nerve system!

That’s why we think about it for you. It’s the single most important system in your body because it controls Every. Other. System. A nerve system that doesn’t function well equals a body that doesn’t function well. In an extreme case consider a brain injury. A stroke or trauma results in damage to a

specific area of the brain. Depending on the area a person may lose the ability to speak, understand, talk, hear, see or move. Damage to other areas may cause a person to lose the ability to feel, or even breathe on their own. None of those are good things, and nerve tissue isn’t great at regenerating, so improvement can be painfully slow or practically non-existent. Day to day life can affect the function of your nerve system too, though on a much less noticeable scale. However again depending on where the dis-ease is within your system different systems could

be affected – your digestion might not be great so you can’t get the most out of the fuel you consume; your sympathetic and parasympathetic systems could be skewed as a result of hormonal changes and so your rest isn’t restful and you’re constantly running from an imaginary lion (at a cellular level); your recovery from exercise may not be as efficient and you may be prone to injuries courtesy of slow or stressed feedback loops from muscles to brain; you may seem clumsy or have a

foggy brain as your proprioceptive systems struggle to place you firmly in your world; you may get a lot of colds and flus as your immune system isn’t up to scratch, or for many it could be in overdrive trying to protect you and so allergies, eczema and auto-immune disorders rum rampant. Really,

your body just doesn’t function effectively and efficiently when your nerve system isn’t working well. So that’s why we are here. All we think about is your nerve system and how we can assist your body to remove interference to its nerve system. Because once your nerve system is functioning better,

your body starts functioning better. And when your body is functioning better you start to notice the differences.
